Slash People

Insights From Research

Young adults, especially Gen Z population, is facing stress from different aspects, including low motivation, loneliness, academics, careers, and uncertain to their future. In addition, the global pandemic has transformed their life style and introduced more challenges to young people.

The rise of "Slash People" refers to the movement, especially among young people, to get second jobs or volunteering gigs outside of their normal day jobs. This leads to long job titles such as marketing specialist/writer/illustrator/consultant, hence the name "Slash People".

It's the symptom of the trend towards following passion further than profession. Stress, late nights and zero down time...they're all just part and parcel of the "long game" of building a career which utilised and satisfies all skill sets and interests, not just the one talent, as used to be the case.

Competitive Analysis

Insights From Competitive Analysis

There are many competitors in the market that addresses the problem of either focus, to-do list or habit formation. However, there's no solution that covers all aspects of time management and productivity and users have to switch between various apps to address their needs. Moreover, one common missing feature in these apps in the lack of feedback to users on how to improve their performance overtime.

Various to-do list (app, paper, notion...) and brain are mainly utilized for managing time.

The current tools of utilizing time are effective when things are not complicated. As information load becomes larger, these tools might be difficult to keep track of everything and act as a reminder.

Majority of people (68.8%) tried to develop a new habit before.

During habit formation, majority of people did not use any tools or methods to help them keep track and preserve.

Low-fidelity Prototypes

Usability Testing

I have recruited two stakeholders and conducted two usability testing in total to gain feedbacks and critique on low-fidelity prototypes. First, I asked stakeholders to explore low-fi prototypes while thinking out loud and then assigned specific tasks for stakeholders to accomplish. After these steps, I conducted follow-up interviews with the stakeholders.

Insights From Usability Testing

It might be difficult for first-time users to become familiarize with the different features.

The progress feature will be very helpful to visualize my daily routines.

I wish this app can provide personal suggestions or recommendations based upon my performance.

From a long-term perspective, a reward system will motivate and incentivize me to keep using this app.

If I have to fill in every task by typing, it will consume a lot of time and energy.
